Planning from site measurements
A working capacity, measured level and recorded inflow give a more useful estimate than headcount alone. Use the figures you have. If they are missing, we can inspect the system and help establish a collection plan.
The collection window
For a sealed holding tank, the estimate shows when the selected booking level may be reached if the entered inflow continues. Changes in use, rainfall entering the system or unusual discharges can bring that date forward. It is not a safe waiting period.
Emptying and access
We can assess tanker access, hose routes and collection arrangements. Tell us the site postcode and any current high-level alarm or overflow. Existing records are useful, but you can contact us before capacity and level readings are confirmed.
Wet wells and process tanks
Wet wells, balance tanks and settlement tanks need a maintenance plan suited to their operation. Volume alone does not set a cleaning interval. We can inspect deposits and plan cleaning or recovery. Do not enter a tank to obtain measurements.

Can I use measured inflow from an industrial site?
Yes, for the storage calculation if the tank is a sealed holding tank with no outflow and the entered inflow represents the period being planned. The figure must include all inflow that actually reaches the tank during that period. Batch discharges and changing operations can make a steady daily estimate unsuitable; check actual levels and the site operating plan.
Can I use this for a septic tank or pumping wet well?
The emptying calculation is for sealed holding tanks only. Septic tanks and treatment plants operate differently. Use the separate maintenance option for a wet well or process tank; it gives planning considerations without calculating a fixed service interval.
What if the tank is already above the booking level?
The result shows zero days remaining. Check the actual level and arrange collection. Do not use the calculation to justify waiting or allow an overflow.
Does the volume identify the waste or confirm a tanker size?
No. Describe the contents and previous use so the material can be assessed. Confirm the collection and acceptance arrangements with the contractor and receiving facility. Tank volume alone does not establish a suitable vehicle or the correct waste route.
What records should a business keep?
Keep the transfer, consignment or other documentation that applies to the material and collection route, together with useful site records such as collection dates, quantities and tank checks. The cited waste duty of care code covers England and Wales and links to guidance for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Record duties depend on the material, route, waste holder and jurisdiction.
Can a household use the planner?
Yes, through the optional household estimate for domestic wastewater in a sealed cesspit. The 150 litres per person per day figure is an editable residential design-flow assumption, not measured use, and this planner does not apply British Water's bedroom-based design-population method. In England, use a registered waste carrier. The wider waste transfer note requirement in the cited duty of care code does not apply to an occupier dealing with household waste from their domestic property, although collection records and invoices can still be useful.
Sources and limits
The calculation is a steady-inflow holding-tank estimate, not a service interval or waste classification. This planner uses British Water's 150 litres per person per day standard residential figure only in the optional household estimate; it does not apply British Water's bedroom-based design-population method. The 75% booking level is an editable example. The cited GOV.UK cesspool guidance applies to England and concerns sewage cesspools, not other industrial liquids. Waste duties and records vary by jurisdiction, material, route and waste holder; HSE guidance covers Great Britain and HSENI covers Northern Ireland.
